Peter Minuit Chapter Wins Coveted New York State Membership Award Our chapter has been recognized for welcoming more new members than any of the other 141 New York State chapters in 2003-2004, earning us the annual membership award from the State Organization. Regent Lisa Brown accepted the award at the 2004 New York DAR State Conference in Albany, NY, on September 25. Peter Minuit Chapter welcomed 31 new members during the reporting period. Chapter Sponsors 2004 Winner of DAR Motion Picture, Radio and Television Award At the 2004 Continental Congress, the National Chairman of the Motion Picture, Radio and Television Committee presented Ric Burns, the Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, with its prestigious award for media achievement. The nomination was submitted by Peter Minuit Chapter. Mr. Burns, creator of such celebrated films as The Donner Party, Ansel Adams, and New York: A Documentary Film, accepted his award from outgoing President General Linda Tinker Watkins before a crowd of more than 2,000 DAR delegates and attendees. Chapter Achieves Highest Honors Again Once again Peter Minuit Chapter made its mark on New York State, achieving a Level One Chapter Achievement Award for 2003-2004 with the highest number of points in the state for the third year in a row! Points are earned by adding new members to our roster, participating in a variety of DAR activities in our community, and raising funds for DAR educational and commemorative projects. Chapter Sponsors 2003 Recipient of Founders' Medal for Education Peter Minuit Chapter sponsored the nomination of Lynne V. Cheney for the NSDAR Founders' Medal for Education, and the Medal was presented to Mrs. Cheney on Opening Night of the 2003 Continental Congress. "One of the important lessons we can learn is that freedom isn't inevitable," she says. "This realization should make the liberty we enjoy all the more important to us, all the more worth defending." In April 2003, Mrs. Cheney launched the James Madison Book Award Fund, which presents a yearly award of $10,000 to the children's book that best represents excellence in bringing knowledge and understanding of American history to young people. Children of the American Revolution The Old Stone House Society of the Children of the American Revolution, sponsored by Peter Minuit Chapter, was awarded the Membership Bowl at the 2002 annual conference of the New York State Society of the C.A.R. The Bowl is presented to the local society with the greatest increase in membership each year. C.A.R. membership is open to all children, boys and girls, who are descended from patriots of the American Revolution. If your child would like to join, contact us! |
